Transition St Gennys

From oil dependency to local resilience

Transition St Gennys

Welcome

The transition to a lower energy future is inevitable. The supply of cheap liquid fuel is declining, with all the easy to reach reserves rapidly facing exhaustion and costs of production soaring. (This situation is referred to as ‘Peak Oil’ in the Transition Towns movement).

Adapting to the effects of changes in climate is also essential, as is taking practical steps to reduce our carbon dioxide and other harmful gas emissions.

Transition St.Gennys initiative is a local community project preparing for these changes, working together to look ‘peak oil’ and climate change squarely in the eye and address this big question:

Starting now, how can we sustain our local community and thrive during the next few decades?

We live in a beautiful part of Cornwall and want to be able to continue enjoying the benefits of living here.

We want to encompass change with hope and practical vision to build a ‘post-consumer’ society where ordinary people make a difference.

We are a group of people that are just getting on with things; simply a collection of acquainted individuals who help each other to get going. We meet for mutual support around our activities, to share resources and represent a united front to formal organisations.

What can you do?

• Look up peak oil, permaculture and Transition Towns on the web. www.transitiontowns.org.uk
• Find out the time and place of our next event on our website, http://transitionstgennys.org.ok print out the map, and turn up with a friend.
• Start chatting to the local organisations you are involved in (social clubs, work, church groups…) or simply the people living in your neighbourhood and find out what they feel they can do to transition to a lower energy world.

The “Who we are and what we do” document (PDF) is published by the Transition Network, the parent organisation for the Transition Towns movement. This is a very short document that quickly explains the purpose and scope of Transition Towns
